Beverage container packaging a $17 billion-a-year business in U.S.

According to a new study released by Reed Exhibition Companies entitled "United States of America Packaging Demand Study", U.S. consumers spent over $100 billion on packaging in 1997,  of which 17 percent was for beverage containers. The leader of the pack in the $100 billion packaging industry is food packaging at $32 billion. Beverage container packaging is second at $17 billion and pharmaceutical/personal care packaging is third at $11 billion.

Reed spokesperson, Dave Reme, explained that the values are based on an estimate of the proportion of the manufactured product's value of production attributable to packaging at an industry SIC level. Free copies of the study are available by calling Dave Reme at 203.840.5667.
